On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis. When marketed asCialis Together(tadalafil 10mg), it will be a ‘P’ (pharmacy) medication, and so available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies – see. This follows the 2018, ‘P’ classification of (sildenafil 50mg) which has been available OTC, without a prescription, since then.

This decision is good news for men’s health …. Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care

Dr Laura Squire, MHRA’s Chief Officer for Healthcare, Quality and Access

Unfortunately, there is a strong black market in the UK for ED medicines, which are often unlicensed or counterfeit. UK Border Force and the MHRA seize millions of pounds of these fake products from criminals annually. This new classification of tadalafil 10mg will enable men who suffer from ED to obtain it safely from a local pharmacy.

Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, is expected to launch Cialis Together later in 2023. Cialis Together will be available to purchase in pharmacies without a prescription by men over 18 with erectile dysfunction. Cialis Together tablets will contain 10mg tadalafil and the maximum pack size will be 8 tablets. Other doses and pack sizes of Cialis and tadalafil will still be available on prescription through doctors and specially trained pharmacists. Before purchase in a pharmacy there must be an assessment with a pharmacist, who will check that Cialis Together is appropriate and safe, or whether consultation with a GP is necessary.

What does this mean for patients?

Men suffering with ED will have another treatment option with the convenience of purchasing it in their local pharmacy, including pharmacies found inside supermarkets (eg. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s). The pharmacist will ask some health questions, may check blood pressure, and will advise on treatment with Cialis Together or Viagra Connect, or the need to consult a GP. Pharmacies usually have a private room for such discussions.

Cialis Together is a 10mg tadalafil product for use at least 30 minutes prior to anticipated sexual activity. Its effects can last. It is not recommended for daily use. The maximum recommended dose of Cialis Together will be one tablet in 24 hours. Prescription Cialis and tadalafil will still be available at different doses.

Dr Fox welcomes the wider access to ED medication for men that Cialis Together classified as a ‘P’ OTC medication will provide. We at Dr Fox are aware of the difficulties men have in discussing ED with their GPs and in accessing ED medication. We know that Cialis is effective and safe for most men and this change provides another option for obtaining ED treatment. Pharmacists are health professionals who are able to give ED advice but they will also know when to refer men who would benefit from a doctor’s assessment. ‘P’ medicines can also be supplied on prescription, and we will offer Cialis Together, when available, alongside our other competitively priced ED products.

Categories of medicine

In the UK have 3 categories:

  • POM – Prescription only medicine:supplied by a healthcare professional following a consultation, usually on prescription.
  • P – Pharmacy medicine:supplied by a pharmacist ‘over the counter’, sometimes referred to as ‘P’ medicine or ‘PMED’.
  • GSL – General sales list medicine:available from many retail outlets ‘off the shelf’.

What is a sex-safe box?

A sex-safe box is a ‘top-size’ package containing a list of products for potential inspection. It is the summary of all the products' characteristics, which is read in more than one order.

Men in the UK will soon be able to buy Viagra over the counter for the first time after the erectile dysfunction drug was reclassified.

Those aged 18 and over will no longer need to see a GP for a prescription after the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced that it is changing the status of Viagra Connect tablets so they can be sold in pharmacies following a conversation with a pharmacist.

US pharmaceutical company Pfizer said it is working on plans to launch the non-prescription version of the medicine in the UK in the spring of 2018. A four-pack of the sildenafil tablets will cost around £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99. Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day. Sildenafil is already available on NHS prescription free of charge.

The decision to reclassify the drug follows a public consultation, the MHRA said. Pharmacists will be able to determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and can give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine, potential side effects and assess if further consultation with a general practitioner is required.

“The move to make Viagra Connect more widely accessible will encourage men to seek help within the healthcare system and increase awareness of erectile dysfunction.”

Mick Foy, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency

But some men, including those with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure or those taking certain “interacting medicines”, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.

It is hoped that making the drug more widely available will mean than men who may have not previously sought help will be more likely to do so. Health officials also hope the move will also help steer people away from buying drugs websites operating illegally.

‘Popular target’

The MHRA said that erectile dysfunction medicines are a “popular target” for criminals selling unlicensed and counterfeit medicines, over the past five years the Agency has seized more than £50m of unlicensed and counterfeit erectile dysfunction medicines.

“This decision is good news for men’s health,” said Mick Foy, MHRA’s group manager in vigilance and risk management of medicines. “The move to make Viagra Connect more widely accessible will encourage men to seek help within the healthcare system and increase awareness of erectile dysfunction.

“Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care, and do not feel they need to turn to counterfeit online supplies which could have potentially serious side effects.”

Dr Berkeley Phillips, UK medical director at Pfizer, said: “The availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies from next year will offer men who are eligible for the product a new and convenient way to access sildenafil, a commonly prescribed treatment for erectile dysfunction.

“We understand some men may avoid seeking support and treatment for this condition, so we believe giving them the option to talk to a pharmacist and buy Viagra Connect could be a real step forward in encouraging more men into the healthcare system.

“As erectile dysfunction may be a sign of an underlying condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease, there could also be a wider benefit to public health in the long term. We hope that this forthcoming new opportunity to purchase a genuine treatment via pharmacy will also reduce the likelihood of men turning to potentially ineffective and dangerous counterfeits from illicit sources.”

Is it a ‘Popular Target’ for Viagra Connect

The MHRA has since found that more than one-tenth of the UK’s market was actually targeted. They have seized more Viagra Connect than that, with an average seizureotonin concentration in the blood of more than one- half of those who are offered the drug.

SUMMER

The store will be open throughout the winter and may close late this year.

The store is located in a building with a long narrow entrance and closed to the public, said store owner, Mark D. Sperus.

The building is owned by the National Retail Bank of South Carolina.

A sign posted on the door reads: “SUMMER’S DYE WATER PACK” and a shelf of the product label has the word “SUMMER” on the front and the word “WATER” on the back. It says the shelf contains the same medication as a regular-use bottle of Viagra and the same dose as a bottle of water.

Sperus said he was concerned about the number of bottles the store would sell.

“I’m concerned about the quality of the bottles,” he said.

“I don’t think any of this should be sold to anyone. I don’t want people thinking they can sell that for $100 a bottle.”

Sperus, who runs a food service business, said some of the stores have limited selection and that he has seen a decrease in the number of people who ask him to sell them.

“I can’t say that I’ve seen it being sold on the internet,” Sperus said.

He said that at the time the sale was not illegal.

The store sells only a selection of the most expensive and popular ED medications, including Viagra, Levitra, Cialis, and Cialis Connect.

“It’s not illegal for retailers to sell them,” Sperus said.

He said that there are currently 50 stores in the United States that sell only a selection of the most expensive and popular ED medications, including Viagra and Levitra.

Sperus said that the store’s prices are “just not what we need” to buy the most expensive medications in the country.

“We really don’t have a lot of room for error in our stores,” he said.

The pharmacy has a variety of brand name medications, including Cialis and Viagra, and has a variety of generic medications, including Staxyn and Tylenol.

Sperus said that the stores in the United States that sell the most expensive ED medications have a lot of different products, such as a variety of medications, and they do not have the same variety of products in stock.

Sperus said that the prices for products that are sold by retailers vary.

Sperus said that the pharmacies that sell medications are licensed pharmacies, which means that they do not have to go through the United States’ system of government regulation, which allows pharmacies to sell drugs directly through the state of the state of the pharmacy or the state government.

Sperus said that he was concerned about the number of pharmacies that sell the most expensive medications in the country.

He said that the stores he ran the store for were several times the prices that he would buy a bottle of Viagra from.

He said that the stores in the United States that sell the most expensive and popular medications include:

Sperus said that the prices he ran the store for are also available online and that he has not seen a decrease in price.

Sperus said that he has seen a decrease in the price of the most expensive medication from the stores that sell the most expensive drugs.

He said that the prices for the medications that he ran the store for were also available online and that he has not seen a decrease in price.

He said that the prices for the medications that are sold by the pharmacies that sell medications are also available online, as well as in the stores in the United States.

Sperus said that the prices that he ran the store for are also available online and that he has not seen a decrease in price.

He said that he has seen the prices that the pharmacies that sell the most expensive medications in the United States have been shown to be higher than other retailers.

He said that there is a lack of regulation in the United States to allow the sale of drugs that are not regulated or are manufactured in the United States, and that he has not seen any of the pharmacies that sell the most expensive medications that are sold in the United States.
